History of the W139

The W139 220 marked Mercedes-Benz's successful return to passenger car manufacturing in the post-war era.

Development began in 1950 as engineers refined pre-war chassis designs using advanced unibody construction techniques.

Production commenced in 1951 with the introduction of the refined 2.2-liter M180 engine and modern suspension geometry.

Manufacturing ceased in 1954 as the company transitioned to the technically advanced W180 platform.
